Meet Cooper Newton
What inspired you to get into the finance space, and how did you get started in the industry?
What inspired me to get into the finance space was the fact that you can make a massive impact on someone’s life and provide a real service. People trust you to help them achieve their dreams, and being able to do that on a daily basis is a genuine privilege. I started in the asset finance space with no prior industry experience, and now I’m looking to further my career with Unconditional Finance.
If you could describe your work style in three words, what would they be?
Dedicated, enthusiastic, client-centric.
Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know?
Due to multiple surgeries and footy injuries, I am unable to bend my thumb and index finger on my left hand.
If you could share a meal with anyone from any era, who would you choose and why?
If I could share a meal with anyone, it would probably be Heath Ledger. He seems like a super interesting guy, and I’d love to find out more about what he was like.
Can you share a story where you helped a client (it doesn’t matter how small or big) that makes you smile?
In my asset finance days, I helped two women who had just started their own gardening business. They needed a ute, as they’d been borrowing friends’ vehicles for the 10 months they’d been in business. Several brokers had told them that no deal was available because their ABN had been active for less than 12 months. I was delighted to tell them I could make it happen, but it would need to be a full doc application. After weeks of back and forth with the lender, I was able to get the deal settled. Ruby and Eve drove away with their brand-new ute, and I’m still in touch with them to this day.
What’s one piece of advice you always give to first-time homebuyers or investors?
Always go with a broker and choose your broker wisely. Many brokers talk a big game but aren’t willing to put in the hard work to get you the best deal.
What’s your favourite way to unwind after work or during the weekend?
My favourite way to unwind is to spend as much time as possible at the beach, either with my girlfriend or with my mates.
